Aint No Manual Podcast Ep. 1 - The Intro/ Welcome To Ain't No Manual

FatherWorks Season 1 Episode 1

Send us a text

There’s no handbook for fatherhood. No step-by-step guide for manhood. No blueprint for how to lead a family, heal from your past, show up with love, or navigate the pressure that comes with being a man today. But there is a space where we can talk about it. Honestly. Openly. Without judgment.
Welcome to Ain’t No Manual — the podcast built for fathers, father-figures, blended families, husbands, partners, leaders, and every man trying to grow while doing the most important work of his life.

In this very first episode, hosts Trey, Ron, and Chris break down:

  • Why this podcast exists
  • The real stories and lived experiences that inspired it
  • What men are really carrying that they rarely get space to talk about
  • The pressures of showing up for your family while navigating your own healing
  • The importance of community, support, and safe conversations among men
  • What to expect in future episodes — from mental health to co-parenting to blended families, relationships, wellness, purpose, and everything in between

This intro sets the tone for what’s coming: authenticity, vulnerability, laughter, truth, and real-life fatherhood. No filters. No ego. No pretending.

If you’re a father, thinking about becoming one, or you simply care about building stronger families and better men — you’re in the right place.

Because at the end of the day… Ain’t No Manual.
But together, we can figure it out.

SPEAKER_02:

Nice. We're here. Why'd you look at me when you say Spanish cards?

SPEAKER_00:

That's crazy. This is my guy. Whatever. That's crazy. My Hispanic friend. See. See senor. My black friend. We're here. We're living. Trying to figure it out. We're trying to figure this out. Trying to figure it out. Fathers. They say we old men, but I feel young at heart. I feel young too. I feel young until I get up and like my knee hurt for no reason. My back hurt for no reason. Absolutely. We still young, but we got a story to tell. Each and every one of us. We've lived a crazy life. First, let me introduce myself. I am Trey Trey D. Him. Yeah. Him. I am him. Timothy. Himothy. Timothy. Sir Him. Hemothy Hernandez. Don't say. Hey, we're here. What are we doing? Cut it out. We're here. I gotta introduce my guys, but first I'm Trey D again. I have eight children. I'm married. I had my first child when I was 18. That's unlucky. Um I done done a lot of crazy stuff. But I'm still here. Seven's lucky, but eight. Nah, it's unlucky. After one, it's unlucky. I don't care what nobody says. I ain't no lucky. You unlucky. You can't stop. But I have those eight kids. I am 39 years old. Okay. But this man has got me, he's one up on me, right? Granddad. Granddad, I'm grandpa, introduce yourself. Papa Smurf.

SPEAKER_02:

Introduce yourself. Who are you? I'm Ryan Hill, aka Papa Smurf. Nah, that's not my real nickname. That's dope, though. Um, I got two kids. I had one when I was 18, 21 now, grown man. Got chin hair. Got chest hair, I think. Look like you. That's weird. Act just like him. Same size. Look just like me. Yeah. And act just like me. And he had a kid. Yeah. Baby Z. So I'm a grandfather. I got a granddaughter. I have a daughter. She's nine. She takes all of my funds and money. That's how I work. That's how you look.

SPEAKER_00:

Beautiful family, man.

SPEAKER_02:

Beautiful family. I appreciate it, man. So um, you know, I'm here to be a beacon. Oh, look at that word. Of light. Look at you. All right, that's what learning that word like. Okay, okay. No, no, no, no, no, no, no. But he learned a new word today, y'all. Yeah. Beacon of light. No, I'm here to tell y'all what it really is. Um, here to tell y'all how life goes when you have kids early. Um You're gonna have to go in because you got some stories, bro.

SPEAKER_00:

I got a lot of stories. We're not gonna just talk about being fathers. We're gonna talk about what got us to this point because we did some crazy stuff to even become these fathers.

SPEAKER_02:

We've cheated death. Yeah, we've done that on multiple occasions.

SPEAKER_00:

We're gonna get into all that, but it's from our father's perspective. We can look back on what we did in the beginning and be like, yo, you're a dummy. Like that was true. You are a dummy, right? Yeah but we want you all to learn. We're still learning, we want you all to learn with us. Yep. Um, so we're gonna take it back to the early days. You see our logo, it's even our colors. To the early 90s high colors. Mays high school, even before then. I mean, you you talk about the days before then, like we were doing some wild stuff. But we've come so far. We're here now, and we're here to share it with the world. You see us, these are these are my guys, I'm their guys, and we're gonna keep moving. They're guys. That didn't even make their guys and their guys. We're keeping that in. That may no longer be.

SPEAKER_01:

Um Chris Robinson. Uh, I got five athletes. Uh I breed them. Like I they don't have a choice. Like I breed them. I breed athletes. Show horse. I breed athletes. Uh Clasdale. 24. I had one. Like we always talk about. We all had kids at a young age. I had mine, I was in high school. There are bad. Um, yeah, that's about it. I got I got it early. I did I started early so I can finish early. That makes sense. Nice. You know what I'm saying? Like, yeah, so y'all didn't think about that. No, we didn't. You start early. I still don't think like that. I don't think you start early. By the time I'm 50, I'll be me and my wife be on a beach somewhere by ourselves and everybody be gone. Yeah, I got a lot of money. But you'll still be, I'll be on the beach and you'll still be in ATV.

SPEAKER_00:

You'll be in PTA meetings. Yeah, I will. No, I don't go to them now. No, no, no, well. That's not happening. That's what I got a wife for. I'm not going on PTA.

SPEAKER_01:

PTA. Look, oh, she's gonna get you for that. She'll cut that out. Edit that. Oh, we're leaving that. Podcast on the case. Yeah, but uh, like I said, I got five, twenty four, don't give me the line. 19, 18, 11, 16. Uh blended family. Yeah. You know, uh, my wife, she treats, we treat all our kids like they're ours, so you would never know. You got favorites. I got favorites.

SPEAKER_02:

You got favorites, but they know who they are.

SPEAKER_01:

You got favorites. I I number mine like Dion.

SPEAKER_00:

So quick question, like what a blended family was. When did you learn that?

SPEAKER_01:

So I'm a part of a blended family. Okay. Like I have brothers and sisters that my dad.

SPEAKER_00:

I'm in a blended family, but I didn't learn it until I met my wife. I didn't know what that meant.

SPEAKER_01:

See, that's the thing, like, we didn't call it that either. Like, they're just all my brother, sisters, you know.

SPEAKER_00:

Well, we got so much. We learned stuff about what we got a lot going on. A lot of stuff, man.

unknown:

Yeah.

SPEAKER_01:

I learned beacon. You did learn beacons. I did learn beacon. And I feel like we're gonna hear that a lot.

SPEAKER_00:

Big word.

SPEAKER_01:

Beacon. I feel like we're gonna hear beacon a lot from you. Even when it has nothing to do with the conversation. Beacon.

SPEAKER_02:

Bro, you know what a beacon is, bro? No. A beacon guides ships in, bro. It guides ships in. Oh, okay. I'm gonna be a guide, okay, to speak for ships.

SPEAKER_01:

I promise you just made that up. I promise. That is not what beacon means.

SPEAKER_00:

Do we need to have a word of the day when we're in here? Beacon. We can do that too. A word of the day for you. It'll be beacon. Today's beacon. It won't be used next time. We'll be doing fit checks. We'll do something. We'll do fit checks. We'll do fit checks. We'll do fit checks. Check this out. I've been bragging all day about my Billy Eilish. He has.

SPEAKER_01:

That's all we done heard about is the Billy Eilish. Billy Eilish. I'm not a fan, I'm sorry. Those are my words. Billy Eilish. I'm not a fan. That's us keeping it young. Like we ain't, we, we older, but you know, we still, you know, we still get a little flying.

SPEAKER_00:

Like we're not supposed to wear them certainly.

SPEAKER_02:

I wear comfy shoes because I'm a grandfather. He's a pop-op.

SPEAKER_01:

So he that's what he goes for comfortability. He goes for comfortability instead of fashion.

SPEAKER_00:

But we we're about to have fun. You see us guys, we we know each other, we've been around each other. Even from those conversations when we were bringing this together, we said, hey, we about to rock. We about to be live, we about to talk about whatever. No holding back. And like, we're about to go in, man.

SPEAKER_01:

We're about to go in.

SPEAKER_00:

Hey, it's gonna be a little bit everything. We're gonna have fun. Are y'all ready though? Are y'all ready? Ready? I don't know if y'all ready. You think they ready? Hey, the bigger it gets, the the bigger it gets. Yeah. What does that mean?

SPEAKER_02:

Whatever that means. The bigger it gets. I'm gonna explain it. This is knowledge. This is a Hispanic knowledge. Let me tell you, because the more subscribers we get, then we're gonna do we're gonna do giveaways too.

SPEAKER_01:

Then we'll be I'm gonna get the logo tattoos. Then we'll be a beacon. We'll be a beacon for the fathers. We'll be a beacon for the fathers. Would you do that?

SPEAKER_00:

I'll do that. We'll get the tattoos. We get to how many followers?

SPEAKER_01:

How many followers we need? You got tattoos? I got tattoos everywhere.

SPEAKER_00:

Oh, okay.

SPEAKER_01:

Yeah. So we're doing it? We get to it. 10,000?

SPEAKER_00:

Y'all follow us.

SPEAKER_01:

10,000 followers. 10,000.

SPEAKER_02:

We'll get the tattoo. Ronald's gonna get on his right button. On the show. We'll do it on the show. I think he will. And we'll do it on the show. If we'll start getting paid, he'll do anything. Amelia, no. Edit that out. We're not. Are you crazy? Hey, we get a tattoo.

SPEAKER_01:

What is wrong with y'all? Look, just imagine. He breeds kids. If you get a tattoo act kind of weird, it'll be like you being a beacon for tattoos, whatever. I'm tired of that word on the beacon.

SPEAKER_00:

Get rid of that word.

SPEAKER_01:

Y'all are killing my hard no more beacon. Episode okay. I just no more beacon. Listen, I'm done.

SPEAKER_00:

We're gonna have fun here. We're gonna talk that talk. We're gonna be live, unedited. Hopefully, they edit some of that stuff.

SPEAKER_01:

It's not we're gonna edit, we're gonna edit the beacon out. I might get in trouble.

SPEAKER_00:

Like y'all might not see me next time if some of that's not in it.

SPEAKER_01:

I'm gonna lose my real job. Yeah, especially the PTA thing. I think that might get you, bro. Hey, that might be it.

SPEAKER_00:

I'm gonna lose my real job. But we're about to do this. We're about to have fun laughing, joking, crying. It's gonna be some time for seriousness. Yeah, for sure, for sure. You already wanna cry. Yeah, I'm sensitive, man. I'm a father, man. That brought it out of me. I got a chance. Girls do it. Girls do it too. Yeah, the girls do girls do it. I was about to cry listening to Billy Eilish earlier. But well, we're gonna have some fun.

SPEAKER_01:

Mind you, that's my first time ever hilling. I knew who she was. I'd never heard Billy Eish. He was over here playing it. And it just brought the whole mood down. The whole room. The entire room, the entire room went down when you played that song. She's a beacon.

SPEAKER_00:

She's a beacon. She's a beacon to the industry. Yeah, but we're about to have fun. We hope you all tune in. Ain't no manual. Ain't no manual. Ain't no manual. Yeah, podcast. Ain't no manual. Ain't no manual. We're here. Look at these tears already rolling down. We're about to have some fun. That's crazy. All right.

SPEAKER_01:

That was so much better. So much better. Oh my God.
